HOA services with regards to field mowing can be a bit tricky.  All HOA contracts are different.  All must be followed exactly.  No two are ever the same.  No two job quotes are ever the same.  All of this is to say the following: if you are hiring the field mowing services of a company, make sure you are hiring a company which comes highly recommended.

Why is field mowing so “tricky?”

Field mowing is not four guys pushing lawnmowers across an open expanse of land.  If it were, you could hire your son and two of his buddies to mow your HOA land “for cheap.”  Field mowing usually involves large-scale mowing of uneven ground.  It requires special equipment, skill, and experience mowing around objects and structures.  In addition, if we are talking about an acre or more of manicured lawn, we are talking about a cut of a specific height to meet HOA standards. There is no way your son and his friends can do that type of acreage mowing.

Which means you need commercial tractor mowing services!

Commercial field mowing services means hiring someone with heavy duty equipment and, if necessary,  it means hiring a brush hog.  Yes, you are going to pay for this type of experience, but a qualified professional is worth the money he charges.

What do HOA services cost?

It really depends on the job!  Some companies charge by the hour. Some tractor mowing services give a job quote, and those quotes can vary greatly.

So how do you decide?

Ultimately, you want to hire a company that holds the same high standards with liability coverage. The company you hire will be a partner — an extension of your team that cares for your property.

Ask around!  Surely there are several HOAs in your area. Find out who does the acreage mowing for those HOAs.  Get recommendations from those who have already hired HOA services. Call the Better Business Bureau for recommendations as well as the Chamber of Commerce.  And make sure the company has the proper licensing and insurance.

There are two very important things to remember with HOA services: if you do a good job with one, you will never lack for work and two, if you do a poor job with one you will find it very hard to ever do another one.
