WHAT IS BRUSH HOG MOWING?

A brush hog (also referred to as a brush mower, bush hog, etc.) is a great attachment. Running our brush hog implements behind 52HP John Deere tractors.  It is typically used to cut tall grass (grasses taller than 6” – 8”) brush, shrubs, blackberries and woody material such as stalks and saplings. Brush mowers normally cut woody material of a diameter between 1/2” and 2”—for any thicker material, you may want to use a chainsaw.  Think an overgrown, neglected field, something which hasn’t been touched in a year or more . . . those situations usually call for brush hogging.

How is field mowing priced?

Prices are all over the place, so be aware! Some jobs are priced by the acreage and jobs are priced by the hour. You also have hard bid jobs and contract flat rate jobs. How is one to know if they are getting ripped off in the pricing? Ask around! We cannot emphasize this enough: check around and ask for job references!  Word of mouth is the best reference!  If they are good at brush hogging, their former customers will speak highly of them. If the company has done poor work in the past, it will not be difficult to find someone out there who is vocal about that company’s performance. Also go onto the websites read reviews and testimonials from previous or even reoccurring customers. Also go to local companies which have attached acreage and ask them for recommendations. We cannot overemphasize this enough.  You are going to pay a premium price for quality brush hog services, so take your time and gather information before hiring someone.  Your due diligence early on will save you in agony later!

Make sure the company you hire has liability insurance.  Accidents happen! Rocks are thrown into windows. Cars are damaged by flying debris.  Make sure you are protected!
